What is Float Therapy?

Known by many names (sensory deprivation, isolation tanks, R.E.S.T, Float Tanks), these names all refer to exactly the same thing — floating! There are so many benefits to floating regularly and they vary among individuals – it’s true to say that every float is different. Most commonly our clients and members float for stress relief, pain relief, athletic recovery, and meditation/introspection and conscious reconnection. But there is great benefit for those looking for a creativity boost, improved sleep, relief during pregnancy, a release from jet lag, and general self-improvement (whatever that looks like for you!). Adding one of our Nootropic teas pre float increases the creativity we see from floating even more!

New to Floating?

It's important to note that there can be a learning curve if you’ve never floated before. That's why we always recommend floating 3 times at a regular interval before deciding if floating is for you – it's a skill after all! We spend so much time 'connected' that we’ve often forgotten how to switch off, 3 floats is often the perfect number to regain this skill and see exactly what floating has to offer you. Just one float can bring about a deep relaxation, the type of which you may never have experienced, but it can take a couple sessions to get used to the new environment and really find your groove. Also, all of the fantastic positive effects are cumulative!

Please don't put any pressure on yourself to relax in your first float, simply lay back, focus on your breathing and let the experience roll on with you in tow. The more pressure you put on yourself the less you will experience the amazing benefits.

So, what brings you here? Interested in meditation and connection to your consciousness? Looking for to relieve stress in a environment where you can truly let go? Recovering from injury or training, or waiting a break from the rigours of physical exercise to work on your mental game? Or is it that you really want to learn more about yourself on a deeper level?

Floating is your solution. We offer one-hour float sessions from our centre in Folkestone, Kent.

Longer floats are available, people often look for 2 or 3 hour floats once they’re more experienced – if this interests you please email us info@7cryo.co.uk

During your float

On your arrival we will take you through a full brief and tell you exactly what you need to do. Ensure you arrive 15 minutes early to give yourself enough time for compulsory pre-float shower and to start switching off nice and early. Our float room is entirely private with a lockable door – once you in the tank and the door is shut the lights switch off automatically leaving you with nothing to worry about.

Once we get your session started and you've settled into a comfortable position, centre yourself in the tank and breathe easily. Floating in our Epsom Salt rich tank is effortless due to the 550kg of salt dissolved in the water. Take the time to mentally scan your body and begin to relax the tension from each and every muscle. This can be an interesting process, becoming aware of yourself in new ways. Be kind and patient with yourself.

Enjoy this ultimate environment of peace and quiet and allow your thoughts to flow naturally. This is a perfect environment to explore your meditation practice if you have one, brainstorm ideas, or simply let yourself drift away as you peacefully listen to your breath. Eventually, as your body and mind relax, you will enter a state where your brain is producing more theta waves. This normally occurs right as you fall asleep or right when you wake up, and can feel dreamy, timeless, and incredibly blissful. The more you float, the easier it is to slip into theta.

Perhaps even try adding one of our Nootropic teas before you float – enhancing your creativity and cognitive function unleashing even more connectivity that ever before. Just add it to your order at the booking confirmation page and arrive 30 minutes early instead of the usual 15 minutes.

After your float!

After your float session – however long you choose, your body and mind will feel refreshed and invigorated due to the weightlessness and isolation from the outside world, it leaves a truly unique feeling of ultimate relaxation. Feel free to drink some tea or coffee and relax on our sofas before continuing with your day. We recommend taking a few minutes at least to sit, reflect, and simply notice how you feel. Try to avoid the urge to go straight for your phone. Make the most of the freedom from your tech that you have just gained!

We love talking about floating. Don't hesitate to share with us — interesting experiences, cool ideas — we may be able to offer additional tips for your next float as well.

Keep in mind that the experience isn't over when you step out of the tank. Many people report feelings of clarity and enhanced well-being for days afterward. Studies show that floating decreases stress hormones and increases dopamine and endorphin production. A consistent float practice has cumulative benefits.

All of our staff are avid floaters and would love to hear about your float experiences so please share them with us and leave us a google review.
